Baihar is a town and nagar panchayat located in Balaghat district in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. It is a Tehsil headquarter with some nearby cities as Malajkhand, Balaghat, Mandla and Nainpur. There are many places of tourist interest in and around Baihar including Mukki and Siharpaat. The town belongs to Jabalpur Division.

Geography of Baihar

The town of Baihar is located at the geographical coordinates of 22.1°N and 80.55°E with an average elevation of 567 meters or 1860 feet above sea level. The town is located 57 KM towards East from the district headquarters of Balaghat. It is surrounded by Paraswada Tehsil towards west, Birsa Tehsil towards East, Bichhiya Tehsil towards North and Balaghat Tehsil towards west. The nearest major railway station from here is Durg Railway Station which is located around 141 KM from here. With good road connectivity and frequent buses operating from all major nearby cities makes it comfortable for anyone to reach here. The nearest airports are Indore and Jabalpur.

Culture of Baihar

Hindi is the local language spoken here. As per census of 2011, Baihar has a population of 16,650 of which 8,334 are males while 8,316 are females. The town boasts about a high female sex ratio and literacy rate. The literacy rate here is 82.85% which is much higher than the state average of 69.32% and national average of 59.5%. Hindus constitute majority of the population with 80% share followed by Muslims being 12%.
